Dropbox Android redesign

Making the iPhone app jealous

Designer Alex Miles created a daunting task for himself: redesign the Dropbox Android app in a way that would give the iPhone app a run for its money. With a bit of chutzpah and a clear vision, he rallied a team of engineers, illustrator Brandon Land, and luckily, me.

This bottom-up effort ultimately surpassed expectations, dramatically improved the user experience (with data to show for it!), and was featured favorably in Wired.

I worked with Alex, Brandon, and the research team to:

  • Dramatically simplify the sign-up/sign-in process, while also making it more friendly

  • Redesign the confusing "Favorites" feature, which became "Offline," and was later improved on other platforms too

  • Surface actions and menu items in the right places, while removing clutter
