  • Taking the heat

I’ve mentioned before that I was worried about transitioning my respectable Boston wardrobe to a new climate (and culture) in Atlanta. And I have to admit, my lovely collection of wool skirts, black dresses, and long sleeves is not translating very well. Sometimes I peek into my closet and wonder if a Puritan lives here.

If I had my druthers, I’d trade the whole bunch for a slew of lighter fabrics and brighter colors. When the latest JCrew catalog arrived (somehow, JCrew and my college alumni association always seem to be the first to find me at a new address), I practically inhaled it with my eyes, hoping it might brighten things up just by being around.

Perfect shirt in chambray polka dot. No. 2 pencil skirt in double-serge cotton, golden sunflower, Jcrew.

I think if I had a summer uniform, this would be it. Because, of course, pencil skirts are always appropriate—it’s the color and fabric weight that depends on locale. How about you? What do you love to wear in midsummer, wherever you are?

  • In the meantime

I’ve got all kinds of ideas simmering for some more in-depth posts, but I think they’ll have to wait until after I finish writing another paper. Wish me luck.

In the meantime, wouldn’t you like to see a few more warm-weather pretty things? I don’t know about you, but I’m still dreaming (wistfully) of summer.  It’s cold here in Boston.

I know everyone’s wearing fedoras these days, but I much prefer the floppy straw hat. How about this one from JCrew?

Do these striped espadrille flats scream ‘summer’ or what?

I can’t stop thinking about this bracelet from Anthropologie. Wouldn’t it be the perfect way to add a little sparkle to your life this summer?

  • Speaking of Atlanta…

When I gave my closet a makeover back in February, I forgot to account for the balmy climate in my future habitat. I have no idea what I’m going to wear when I move to this lovely city in just a few weeks. Apparently, it’s already 90 degrees there?!

Having lived in Boston for college and grad school, I’ve managed to accumulate a significant collection of black dresses, warm boots, and wool sweaters. Unfortunately, these items won’t get much use in my new home.

Here are a few warm weather picks I’d love to add to my collection.

A white blazer. (Stable blazer from Madewell.)

A bright and breezy dress. (Skater dress from ASOS.)

Perfect sandals. (Mantra sandals by Very Volatile from Piperlime.)

What are your favorite warm weather essentials? I’d love to hear your suggestions.
