Taking the heat
I’ve mentioned before that I was worried about transitioning my respectable Boston wardrobe to a new climate (and culture) in Atlanta. And I have to admit, my lovely collection of wool skirts, black dresses, and long sleeves is not translating very well. Sometimes I peek into my closet and wonder if a Puritan lives here.
If I had my druthers, I’d trade the whole bunch for a slew of lighter fabrics and brighter colors. When the latest JCrew catalog arrived (somehow, JCrew and my college alumni association always seem to be the first to find me at a new address), I practically inhaled it with my eyes, hoping it might brighten things up just by being around.
Perfect shirt in chambray polka dot. No. 2 pencil skirt in double-serge cotton, golden sunflower, Jcrew.
I think if I had a summer uniform, this would be it. Because, of course, pencil skirts are always appropriate—it’s the color and fabric weight that depends on locale. How about you? What do you love to wear in midsummer, wherever you are?
