Weekend inspiration (also, an introduction)

Today I’d love to introduce you to The Equals Record, in case you haven’t stumbled upon it already. Created by Elisabeth Thurston Fraser and Miya Hirabayashi, it’s a beautiful collection of stories, thoughts, and images by women in different places (literally and figuratively). I’ve loved Meg Blocker’s thoughts on dating and reading lists, Roxanne Krystalli’s thoughts on home and away, and Erin Loechner’s letter to her mom. I’ll be writing a weekly column on Fridays, and my first post is up today! I hope you’ll stop by and wander around. You’ll certainly find something to sink into.

Lately, Stephen and I have been gravitating toward documentaries whenever we have a bit of downtime. We’ve loved Atom Smashers, Helvetica, and Mad Hot Ballroom, but our favorite was definitely The Buena Vista Social Club. Do you have any favorite movie recommendations? I’d love to know.

Leaky mug

In my dream life, I wake up ridiculously early and enjoy a leisurely breakfast, at which I drink my entire cup of coffee while sitting down and reading the newspaper (or a few of my favorite blogs, actually—let’s be honest).

In my real life, unfortunately, I have a terrible habit of hitting snooze a few times and then flying out the door with coffee in hand. When I finally skid into class and catch my breath, I am inevitably dismayed to find a giant spattering of coffee on my shirt or my leg or my bag or perhaps on the side of my face.

I am a firm believer in working to close the gap between real life and dream life.

I am also a firm believer in being honest about one’s own strengths, weaknesses, and priorities. And anyways, this has been going on for way too long.

So until I make my dream breakfast (which probably looks a lot like this) happen on a more regular basis, I might just have to invest in a very sturdy, very leak-proof travel mug. That way, I can run like a madwoman when necessary and still arrive at my destination with my coffee and my clean shirt intact.

Basically, this is all just to say that while I’d love to collect pretty stay-at-home mugs like these by Molly Hatch…
